I found the message in today’s “Pray for the city” program extremely inspiring.  It talked about growth and understanding – as Christ’s disciple, we learn and grow, it’s an ongoing process and we do not stop.  We may not know everything but there needs to be a willingness to obey and learn – learn to ask and seek from the Lord himself.

There are many accounts of Jesus using parables to preach to the people, many of them would turn away and leave at the end of the sermon, hearing but not understanding.  The disciples on the other hand, were eager to learn the word of God.  They approached Jesus and sought understanding, they were not afraid of not understanding.  When they asked, Jesus was more than happy to explain the message to them.

Similar to them, we should not be afraid of not understanding.  We should be seeking Jesus, for him to personally dis-cipher for us what he’ll like us to know.  Often when we do not understand a passage, we leave it or complain about the preacher not explaining it well enough.  But it is more important for us to seek God’s guidance, so that we may be taught.

May we, as Jesus’ friends, brothers and sisters, family, be determined enough to seek him and welcome the kingdom of God into our lives.

The Lord says in Isaiah 8:12-13 to His people:

12 “Do not call conspiracy
everything that these people call conspiracy [f] ;
do not fear what they fear,
and do not dread it.

13 The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy,
he is the one you are to fear,
he is the one you are to dread,

Fear not anyone or anything else, other than the Lord.

Amen.

JHN 316

When I am on the road, I often look at number plates and think about the first thing that’s triggered by the number plate of cars on the road.  For example “YFV00M” would read a fast car that ‘voom-s’ on the road.

So this other day I saw a car whose number plate reads “JHN 315”.

“We should get a number plate that reads JHN 316, hon,” I told my husband.

“Why?”

“Well, I think that stands for John 3:16!  For God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son, whoever believes in Him, shall not  perish but have eternal life!”

“Wow, that’ll be a conversation starter?!  Hey, why do you have that number plate, dude?”

So since then, our thinking is to have one of that number plate on our car.  One day.  That thought has been on my mind quite a bit, so it’s no wonder this song is now stuck in my head – Matt Redman’s This is How We Know.

Oxymoron

Ever thought about this – sin separates us from God – God is just and He does not tolerate sin.  Fair enough?

Now, after we become Christians, we learn about this.  We confess and we receive forgiveness, and we can stand before God again.

Here is the “oxymoron” – because of our sin, we do not have a relationship with God; but at the same time, because of our sin, we turn to God and realise there’s no way out for mankind except through God!  How much more “oxymoron” does it get?!
